 No
other outfitter’s experience approaches what Northern Lights
has here. Since 1983, we have set the highest standard of outfitted,
guided sea kayaking journeys and are renowned for our level of service
and expertise. Others have come along in recent years with thoughts
and plans of ‘imitating’ or running budget versions
of our trips, and calling them ‘the best.’ But if you
do want a trip that actually offers the highest standard, Northern
Lights is the place for you.
We now
offer two versions of our classic Inside Passage trip - Wildlife
Discovery and Orca Humpback Odyssey.

Discovery Tours our focus is the most well-rounded sea
kayaking trip this area can offer. We will strive to see every animal
species we can while taking time to enjoy the best kayaking routes
on earth.

On our Orca
Humpback Odysseys, we’ll follow similar routes and
paddle the same waters as our Wildlife Discovery Tours do. But we
will plan our specific routes, and alter them whenever appropriate,
to make sure we maximize every opportunity to see Orca and Humpback
whales along the way.

Both our Inside
Passage trips feature a mix of spending time in two vastly different
environments. One part of the trip is centered in the archipelago
of small islands where the greatest variety of wildlife is found;
the other is spent in an area with less diversity but with a much
higher percentage of time where the great whales are found.
Orca/Humpback trips may choose to spend a day longer in the area
that offers the greatest number of whale encounters, while the Wildlife
Discovery tours may spend a day longer in the intricate waterways
where so much diversity exists.
Kayaking the Inside
Passage
Since 1983, we have spent thousands of days kayaking the unsurpassed
waterways of British Columbia's Inside Passage. During the past
25 years, we also explored and guided sea kayaking adventures in
places like Baja/Sea of Cortez, the South Pacific, the San Juan
Islands, the eastern Canada coastline, and even pioneered the first
kayak expeditions to the Galapagos Islands. One thing we learned
was that nothing compares with the Inside Passage region for scenery,
wildlife and the variety of superb kayak routes.
A sea kayaking adventure to us is a wildlife adventure, as sea kayaking
the northwest coast is the best way on earth to encounter marine
wildlife, not to mention the birds and land mammals that inhabit
the skies and forests of the archipelago.
 Here
we have gorgeous camp
sites, with panoramic views and peaceful glades of trees to
nestle our tents into. Beautiful coves and beaches offer perfect
starting points from which to kayak this most special area of the
legendary Inside Passage.
Hiking trails
from some campsites lead to breathtaking viewpoints. Eagles seem
to be around every corner, with numerous nests perched high in ancient
trees. Porpoises, dolphins, humpback and minke whales swim past.
Our 25 years of experience mean that your chances of encountering
whales are nearly 100%.
Hundreds of
whales inhabit this coast and many return to Vancouver Island’s
Inside Passage waters for the summer months. Each kayaking tour
is specially designed to maximize the sightings of and encounters
with orcas (killer whales), humpback and minke whales, dolphins
and other marine wildlife.
