25th Anniversary

It’s (sometimes) hard to believe, but 2007 will be Northern Lights Expeditions' 25th year in operation. We aren’t going to let our 25th season come and go without doing some celebrating. A number of special events and trips are in the works for 2007. No clues here, but we’ll fill you in with our October Notes from the Inside Passage. Overall, we have a number of projects in mind that will step up every aspect of our trips for you. We hope to see many of our past guests coming back to join in the celebration as well as lots of new faces.

2007 Camping Trip Schedule

We are currently working on our 2007 plans and we have the schedule set for our 6-day Inside Passage expeditions and 4-day Wild Orca Adventures, now posted on our web site. We’re still working on the final schedule for our lodge-based and ‘Mothership’ trips, as well as our special 25th Year celebration adventures; they should be online by the end of September. We have a reputation for running the finest operation in sea kayaking and we aim to be even better next summer, with new and even better equipment, new levels of comfort and care, new treats from the Blackfish Cafe, and more of our greatest guides returning.

More About Our Guides

Many of you who regularly read our newsletters have told us our notes on our guides are what you look for most. We thought we were about done reporting guide news after our August newsletter, but we’ve had some pleasant surprises.

Luke Gutowski, who we thought had finally retired after five full seasons with us, missed the Inside Passage so much he has returned to finish out another season. Luke’s a Northern Lights legend by now and we’re all glad to have him back.

We love to have some of our best guides from the past show up for cameo appearances. While most of our guides are here with us all season, we also welcome some of our former star guides to come in for a week or two any time. Scott Wilson and Cara Troy joined us late in the year.

Scott was with us from 1999 to 2001 and since has been roaming the world as an adventure-oriented videographer. We were able to welcome him back for an Inside Passage expedition in late August while he was between commercial shooting assignments on the coasts of BC and Newfoundland.

Cara Troy, with us from 2000-2002, started a long sailing voyage along the BC coast in April and arrived in time to guide a trip for us in early August. She’s one of our guests’ all-time favorites and this year’s group was treated to a perfect week guided by our guides Cara and Samanta.

We almost neglected to let you know about our suberb Port McNeill base manager, Chris Woo. A native of Port McNeill, Chris stepped in this summer for the first time and he couldn’t have been any better. With training and experience in hotel management, Chris has been not only a great host but also an excellent details man, doing whatever is necessary to ensure nothing slips through the cracks in our effort to provide the best service possible.
