Meet Our Guides

Some of our longer term guides have moved on after the last couple of seasons. While we are always sad to see our veteran guides go, it opens up some space for some of the best new guides in the business to find a home at Northern Lights. We’re excited to have a very international staff this season with guides from Canada, of course, as well as New Zealand, Australia and Brazil. Check out our 2007 staff here.

Have an Extra Day?

What else can you do way up here? The number one choice of our guests for adding a day or two over the past few years has been grizzly watching, with everyone reporting it’s well worth it. Check our grizzly page for more information.

Whale watching is a strong standby as well, for those who maybe didn’t get enough whales on their kayaking trip or who want a chance to take some good whale photos or video. Check our whales page for more information.

A relaxing day off in the area that will be a highlight for many would be to take the passenger ferry to the island village of Alert Bay. Its large Native population invites you with a variety of culturally oriented activities. Check these web sites of places and activities we highly recommend:
U’Mista Cultural Centre for its museum and traditional dance performances: www.umista.org
Culture Shock for its shop and activities, including a traditional salmon barbeque, storytelling, cedar weaving, and cultural Ecotours paddling a tradition dugout canoe: www.cultureshockgallery.ca

June Trips

We always encourage June bookings for a number of reasons. While we may have few orcas in the area until near the end of the month, June is a highlight because the summer weather has arrived, but other boaters and fisherman have not arrived. What’s more, the bald eagles are at their peak; you’ll probably see over 50 of these magnificent birds a day this month. The humpback and minke whales are here in June, as are the porpoises and all the other wildlife we find throughout the summer. This is our quietest, most peaceful time of the season on the water and the kayaking is superb.

Private Trips

A Northern Lights kayaking trip with just family and friends is the perfect way to spend time together. Just a few of our dates are still set aside for private trip bookings. Those opportunities will soon be gone, so it you’ve had a private family or friends trip in mind, now is the time to talk with us about these few available dates. Check out our custom trips page for more ideas.

Inside Passage starting: June 24, July 22, Sept 16
Wild Orca trips starting: June 25, Sept 17
Minimum group size for private trips is 10.
